The Women’s Law Network has been established to increase opportunities for women in Law, through building valuable relationships amongst professionals.
Our Mission is to empower women in all legal and related fields to exploit their full professional, economic and personal potential. Facilitating women to contribute to the imminent development of their profession, alongside networking with other like-minded females in the industry.
The Women’s Law Network recognises the need for women within the legal fraternity to build a platform that allows females to seek new opportunities and advancements within their legal profession. Through the establishment of WLN on a global basis, we are able to offer like-minded women the potential to grow, develop and establish connections within the industry. As a united sphere we seek to celebrate our achievements as well as tackle the areas of neglect that are still so prevalent in the profession today.
Numerous synergies are to be found within business corporations, entrepreneurs, accounting practices, start-up businesses and multi-national corporations, where women play an integral role in the decision making process. As a member of WLN, you will have the opportunity of consulting with like-minded professionals across the globe that have the ability to open doors, create new business prospects and offer business support in different countries. Through the sharing of experiences, valuable insight can be obtained into the setting up of practices or businesses as well as encouraging women to aspire to becoming managing partners in their respective areas of specialty. Strategic collaborations will enable different parties to work together, promote joint events, share vital information and cross pollinate website linkages. As key role players, we trust that WLN members will be in the forefront of promoting the rights and retention of women within the industry.
Latest statistics from the American Bar Association (ABA) show that fewer women are graduating and remaining in the legal profession; there is still a huge disparity between salary structures, and the advancement of women progressing into senior positions continue to lag behind. Through engaged collaboration we need to change the perception that there is life both before and after children, that women have the ability to continue a successful legal career alongside the nurturing of children and a fulfilled family life. WLN has sought the need to address the prominent issues of concern within the female legal industry through providing consistent awareness, education and training to ascertain the ultimate empowerment of women.
Around the world there are a select few who have successfully broken through the ‘glass ceiling.’
It is by sharing their stories, drive and passion that WLN hopes to spur other women to realise their ambitions and claim their rightful place as senior, equity or managing partners; recognised specialists in specific areas of law or as part of the judiciary.
Mentoring becomes a key part of this process and WLN will facilitate the guidance and collaboration required through its Mentoring Programme.
Our fundamental reasoning behind the network is to create an optimistic environment and platform for female Lawyers around the world. We want to help build positive relationships between female advisors, which can be developed, nurtured and cultivated in to cemented relationships that can form into business opportunities and friendships in the future. Through this means, we can tackle the enduring issues within the industry on a collaborative basis; as on an individual basis these are less likely to be achieved. On a global foundation, women can show their empowerment through connecting with one another. It is evident that most women enjoy networking, thus we have created a professional circle in which females are able to network with other women from different parts of the globe. The significance of this network will provide endless openings for women to learn from each other within their profession; learning how other women work within their social and cultural societies, how they balance their work and personal life, and how they can progress in their careers.
We recognise and acknowledge that women have become successful in all aspects of legal practice, the retention and promotion of women to leadership positions is a continuous major problem. Gender imbalance and the disparity in earning capacity as opposed to our male counterparts, need to be addressed as a collective. The Women’s Law Network sees itself as the global vehicle to create safe spaces for legal professionals and like-minded women to champion this cause. We aim to stimulate conversations that engender an awareness of education; enhance skills; inspire and empower women to rise amongst the ranks in profile, recognition and leadership. WLN, as a networking platform promotes the realisation that a balance of career, family and lifestyle is attainable and seeks to encourage more women to become managing partners and specialists in their chosen area of practice.
