Irene Kashindi is a partner in the litigation department of Hamilton Harrison and Mathews.
She has a wide range of experience in commercial litigation and arbitration. She has represented and advised a diverse portfolio of local and international clients in disputes filed before various courts and statutory tribunals.
Her practice areas include Public Procurement, Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), Judicial Review and Administrative law, Constitutional Law, Tax and Revenue, Real Estate, Insurance, and Employment.
She has been integral to the team in the firm representing clients in complex tax and revenue disputes. She has recently been involved in judicial review proceedings challenging substantial demands made by the Kenya Revenue Authority against tax payers in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
She has also been involved in litigation challenging regulations recently introduced in the tobacco industry which for the first time, provide for graphic health warnings and also compel tobacco manufactures to pay a solatium compensation levy.
She has been involved in successfully representing client in litigation arising from some of the largest public procurements and PPP projects in the country including the Lamu Coal power plant, the Standard Gauge Railway, the laptop project and many others.
Irene also handles a large number of the firm’s insurance related work and has considerable experience in employment Law. She has recently successfully defended a huge employment claim made against a foreign government agency.
Irene is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the East Africa Law Society. She has Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Post Graduate Diploma in Law and a Master’s Degree in Law -Public Finance and Financial Services.
Irene is passionate about mentoring the youth, especially girls and spends part of her free time doing this.
