Jacqueline Schaap was educated at the University of Amsterdam. She worked as a trademark agent first and qualified for the bar in 1988. In that year she joined the IP department of the law firm Boekel de Nerée. She became a partner in 1995 and head of the IP department in 2001. In 2002 Jacqueline went on to co-found Klos Morel Vos & Schaap.
Jacqueline’s practice covers a wide range of IP matters including copyright, design protection, advertising, gambling, and media and entertainment. Among her clients are publishing companies, film and tv-producers, artists, designers, and an internationally renowned art museum. In addition to IP matters, Jacqueline also handles defamation and freedom of speech cases.
Jacqueline regularly acts as a speaker and teaches at several professional training courses. For many years, she has been a member of the Board of the Netherlands Advertising Association and the Committee on Copyrights, an advisory board assisting the Ministry of Justice. Jacqueline is also a member of the supervisory board of the Amsterdam Bar Association (vice-president).
Jacqueline is the author of several books and articles within her areas of expertise, and has co-authored a Dutch handbook on Intellectual Property and the French-language book on advertising “La publicité et la loi”.
She is singled out as an key individual in Chambers. Pritchard’s “LEGAL 500” calls Jacqueline ‘a very practical lawyer, who has a clear vision but also keeps in mind the commercial interests’.
Jacqueline is also shortlisted at Euromoney Legal Media Group’s European Women in Business Law Awards for best in copyright and was chosen 2013 Media "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers'.
