Mariela obtained her law degree at Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina Santa María de los Buenos Aires, Facultad de Derecho (Argentina) in 1998 with honors.  She also has several post-graduate studies in finance, banking and antitrust.

 

Mariela began her legal career working for the National Civil Courts and later joined one of Argentina’s leading law firms at the time.  A few years later, she became the firm’s youngest and first female partner.

 

Mariela has substantial experience in M&A transactions and in antitrust matters involving a wide range of industries, including digital cable television, alcoholic beverages, cement, supermarket, dairy, mining, fishing, consumer food products and banking.

 

Mariela’s practice also extends to banking and finance matters.  She has advised both issuers and underwriters on public and private corporate bond issues, including on notes qualified as “negotiable obligations” under Argentine law.  She has structured workouts and represented both creditors and debtors in restructurings and in insolvency proceedings.  She routinely advises clients on their interaction with financial regulatory and self-regulating bodies, including the Central Bank, the National Securities and Exchange Commission and the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange.

 

She has also worked extensively in compliance matters, having created and implemented in-house programs to train management on various substantive matters, and has drafted policy manuals to foster client compliance.

 

For each of the last several years, she has been recognized as a leading practitioner in Argentina by Chambers & Partners publications.

 

Mariela serves as a director and as a member of the Supervisory Committee of Argentine subsidiaries of various international companies.
