Kavitha Vijay is the Senior Partner of UNIVERSAL LEGAL, a full service law firm based in Chennai carrying on business under the merged brand name ‘IC Universal Legal, Advocates & Solicitors’ (post brand merger effective from September 21, 2017 with ‘IC Legal, Advocates & Solicitors’) and presently having pan-India offices in Ahemdabad, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh.
Kavitha Vijay’s experience pans over 15+ years and has been leading the Chennai office since 2010. Kavitha Vijay works primarily on mergers, acquisitions, private equity investments and joint ventures. She has also been a key player in starting the micro-finance practice in the Firm and has been actively engaged in advising many non-banking financial companies and micro finance companies with regulatory compliances, structuring of loan documentations, besides assisting them raise capital. Her other practice areas involve infrastructure and media & entertainment, besides general corporate law and advisory services.
She has lead the team on various trans-border transactions, including:
• Represented Thirumeni Finance Private Limited in its raise of funds to the tune of Rs. 350 crores from multiple national and international investors;
• Saksoft Limited’s acquisition of Faichi Solutions LLC;
• Represented Amelio Early Education Private Limited in its raise of funds from Babilou’s S.A.S., being one of Europe’s childcare groups;
• Represented agRIF Cooperatief U.A. in investment in Save Solutions Private Limited;
Directorships: She is an independent woman director on the Board of MM Forgings a public listed company, director in A. V. Thomas and Company Limited besides directorships in other private limited companies.
Trusteeships: She is also a trustee in an NGO Foundation “The Interface” which is involved with implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility related activities for corporate organizations.
Membership: She has been involved with The Indus Entrepreneurs, Chennai Chapter (Charter Member), the Round Table of India and the Rotary Club for many years. She is enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.
