Yung Shin Van Der Sype is a qualified lawyer of the Brussels Bar and an associate with Alston & Bird’s Privacy, Cyber & Data Strategy Group. Yung Shin is a skilled negotiator with a thorough understanding of IT law in action. She uses her background researching privacy and data protection laws to provide clients with practical advice with their business goals in mind.
She focuses her practice on IT law and HR-related matters, including privacy and data protection, IT contracts, and corporate security. Yung Shin has advised national and international clients in multiple industry sectors, ranging from health care to social media. She provides clients with a variety of GDPR services, including training, reporting data breaches, and handling data subject requests. She has also negotiated data protection agreements, information notices, consent forms, IT security policies, and various IT contracts on cloud computing.
Before entering private practice, Yung Shin worked as a doctoral researcher, focusing on how Belgian and European privacy and data protection laws relate to the privacy of employees in the workplace. She is still an affiliated research fellow of the Centre for IT & IP Law at the KU Leuven. She is also a member of the editorial committee of the law journal Privacy & Informatie and the law journal Sociaalrechtelijke Kronieken (Social Law Chronicles), and she is a board member of the Vereniging Sociaal Recht (Social Law Association).
